The Palo Alto Museum is postponing its opening due to water intrusion in our historic building that requires further assessment and repair. We are working closely with the City of Palo Alto, the building owner and a key partner, to finalize next steps.
While it is disappointing to delay the opening, we’re taking the time to ensure the collection is protected and the building is fully ready to welcome the public.
City Manager Ed Shikada said, “City staff and Museum leadership are working together to move this effort forward, reflecting a solution-focused partnership and a strong spirit of collaboration.”
Our Museum team will continue to move forward with plans for a vibrant array of exhibitions, events, programs, and community experiences. Taking the time to do this right is essential to the Museum’s long-term success.
Mayor Vicki Veenker said, “This moment highlights how important this new cultural institution is to Palo Alto. There is real momentum, and I’m excited for the Museum to open and serve our community.”
After the repair scope and schedule are approved, we look forward to sharing a new opening date. Thank you for your continued involvement and support to bring the Museum to life.
