FAQ: Commemorative Brick Inscriptions

How will my inscription appear on the brick?

Format

  • ALL CAPITAL LETTERS only 
  • Up to 3 lines – with a maximum of 23 characters per line (including spaces)
  • Centered horizontally and vertically on the brick 

 

Allowed characters

  • Letters A-Z (Accented characters like É, Ñ, Ü are also welcome.)
  • Numbers and  spaces
  • Punctuation including

: . , ! ? ‘ ” ( ) [ ] { } / \ – _ + = < > @ # $ % ^ & * | ; : ~

(Note: Emojis and symbols such as ™ or ® are not supported.)

What should I keep in mind when writing?

Our museum welcomes visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs. We ask that inscriptions reflect that same spirit of openness and inclusion. Ask yourself: would this message feel warm and appropriate to any visitor?

Great choices
Names, dates & family tributes · Gratitude, love & remembrance · Personal milestones · School or community pride · Short meaningful phrases or quotes

Please avoid
Profanity or offensive language · Political slogans or candidates · Exclusionary or demeaning content · Religious proselytizing · Advertising or URLs

What happens after I submit my inscription?

Our team reviews each inscription before it goes to engraving, usually within 7–14 business days. If anything needs a small adjustment, we’ll reach out and work with you to get it just right.  If we can’t reach an approved version together, you’ll receive a full refund. 

During this phase of the Palo Alto Museum commemorative brick program, all bricks will be engraved with approved inscriptions and installed before the grand opening of the Museum.
